Flood Warning For Danbury

UPDATE: The National Weather Service issued a flood warning for Danbury through 12:30 a.m. Saturday. In addition to the flood warning, Danbury is also subject to flash flooding until Saturday afternoon.

UPDATE:
In a noon call to emergency management directors, first selectmen and mayors, the National Weather Service said western Connecticut will experience the hardest rain between 3 and 9 p.m. today. Expect local flooding of low spots, rivers and streams.

During the call, the weather service reminded people most deaths from rain storms come from people driving in cars.

Danbury Emergency Management Director Paul Estefan said no streets are flooded yet, but the city will be watching all day. He said the city's reservoirs, East Lake, Margerie Reservoir and West Lake were measured at 97.8 percent of capacity on June 3.

The National Weather Service is predicting two to 4.5 inches of rain today into Saturday, and flooding is expected in areas that usually flood.

Members of the Danbury Police Department have moved their cars off their main parking lot next to the Padanaram Brook to the elevated parking lot next to Police Headquarters.

There is no flooding yet on West Street at the railroad overpass, at Memorial Drive near Glen Apartments or on Williams Street, three spots where flooding is possible.

The National Weather Service predicted Danbury will receive 1 to 2 inches of rain today, another 1-2 inches tonight and another .25 to .50 inches Saturday. No flooding has yet been reported.

"We have nothing yet," said Danbury Police Shift Commander Shaun McColgan at 9:24 a.m. "It's supposed to get bad mid-morning, but nothing yet."

The National Weather Service reminds people if they're driving toward standing or running water on a road, turn around.
