Emergency Animal Rescue, All-Abilities Playground: Area Fundraising Campaigns

Westchester and Fairfield Counties include enough well-funded municipal governments, pristine business districts, manicured parks and safe, wealthy enclaves that many outsiders refer to the entire area as “The Gold Coast.”

Yet pressing human services remain an increasingly important part of day-to-day life for many. Just as food pantries have taken on a greater and more regular role for many families and homelessness has bucked national trends by rising, so too many more people in the area rely increasingly on the generosity of private donors for basic needs.

GoFundMe is one major engine for soliciting private donations, and in the window above you’ll see a sampling of five active campaigns in the region.   • Kyle Winslow All Abilities Playground” (Fairfield, CT): Bridgeport-based youth hockey organization Wonderland Wizards has a campaign to create an all-abilities playground.  In one month, 13 people have contributed $1,800 toward a $75,000 goal.
  • EARS Response Vehicle Fundraiser” (Westport, CT): ‘EARS’ stands for ‘Emergency Animal Response Service.’ Westport-based EARS is designed to focus on animals in need during emergencies when many public and volunteer responders are focused on people.  The group is seeking donations to help buy a reduced-cost vehicle to facilitate its work. In five months, 18 people have contributed a total of $543 toward EARS’ $3,000 goal.
  • Shelton D10 Cheer National Fundraiser” (Shelton, CT): Here’s what these campaign organizers say—“Please help us raise money to send our D10 Vikings Cheer team to represent Shelton at Nationals. The D10 Cheer Team is undefeated this season winning first place at the local, state, and regional competitions. All money raised will go directly to the girls to help defray costs for travel and other competition expenses. Thank you for your support.” In about two weeks, $925 of the $10,000 goal has been raised.
