Danbury Animal Welfare Society's Making a Difference Ball

Danbury Animal Welfare Society (DAWS) will hold its fourth annual Making a Difference Ball on Saturday, February 12 from 6:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. at the Ethan Allen Hotel located at 21 Lake Avenue Extension, Danbury. The event will feature silent & live auctions, plentiful food and drink, and entertainment by Connecticut’s premier event band, Higher & Higher. All proceeds will help fund the mission of the Danbury Animal Welfare Society.

This is DAWS’ largest annual fundraiser, attended by over 300 people and supported by hundreds of others through sponsorships, journal advertisements, financial and in-kind donations. The revenue from the Making a Difference Ball will help support this non-profit, volunteer-run organization dedicated to improving the lives of animals in our community and beyond. Last year the event raised over $100,000 allowing DAWS to increase the hours of its on-site veterinary clinic by 33%. This year DAWS hopes to raise funds to further expand the clinic to provide more life-saving care.

In 2010, DAWS helped over 800 animals through its various programs: animal rescue and adoption, low-cost spay/neuter clinic, and Trap-Neuter-Return, a program that spays and neuters feral cats and manages feral cat colonies that exist in our community.

Each year, DAWS honors an individual or institution for their support. This year’s honoree is Union Savings Bank. Union Savings Bank has supported the mission of DAWS in many ways: a $5,000 grant from the Union Savings Bank Foundation, sponsorships of major events, and, most notably, the donation of a multi-purpose cargo van.

"Union Savings Bank and its foundation have made a huge difference in our animal rescue efforts,” said DAWS President Christine Benezra.

Another proud supporter of DAWS is Danbury’s own Mayor Mark Boughton who is declaring February 12th as “Danbury Animal Welfare Society’s Making a Difference Day”.

“The Greater Danbury community is fortunate to have an organization such as Danbury Animal Welfare Society serving our residents and animals,” said Boughton. “The animal rescue, adoption, and low-cost spay neuter programs provided by DAWS make a tremendous difference in the lives of animals and their human companions.”
