Veteran's Day Celebrations at WCSU

Western Connecticut State University will host its annual Veterans Day observance as well as National Remembrance Day
on the Midtown campus, 181 White St. in Danbury. The November 2013
ceremonies will recognize all those who have served and WCSU veterans
in particular. The events, which are free and open to the public, are
sponsored by the WCSU Student Veterans Organization, Veterans Advisory Committee, Office of Enrollment Management and Office of Student Affairs.

The events will include:


Friday, Nov. 8:          In observance of
Veterans Day, there will be the laying of a wreath at 12:30 p.m. at
Ives Concert Hall in White Hall. Afterward, WCSU President James W.
Schmotter will read the Gettysburg Address at the Alumni & Friends
Circle outside of Old Main. Danbury Mayor Mark Boughton will be the keynote speaker.


Monday, Nov. 11:      To commemorate National Remembrance Day,
guests will gather at 10:45 a.m. at the Alumni & Friends Circle
outside of Old Main, which will be followed at 11 a.m. by a national
moment of silence. Beginning at 11:15 a.m., there will be a roll call
to honor those men and women from Connecticut who have given their
lives for their country and those who have or are currently serving.

“In addition to paying tribute to all those who served our
country with pride and distinction,”  said Assistant Dean of Student
Affairs Daryle Dennis, “Ibelieve the Veterans ceremony illustrates the
university’s commitment to acknowledging, honoring and supporting our
student veterans.”
