Community Corner
Pack the Gym Pink at Danbury High School
The 2013 FCIAC Champion Lady Hatters girls’ basketball team is having a “PACK THE GYM PINK NIGHT” to promote cancer awareness in memory of their beloved coach Officer Bobby DiNardo.
On Tuesday January 17, 2014 the Lady Hatters will be hosting a home game vs. Stamford. Tip off time is 7:00 pm in the main gym at Danbury High School. A framed poster called “The Wish Poster” will be raffled off during halftime. The poster represents the birthdays
that cancer survivors celebrate thanks in part to cancer research.
Officer Bobby DiNardo, the husband of Coach Jackie DiNardo passed away after a
courageous battle with cancer in June of 2009. Officer DiNardo was a 29 year veteran of
the Danbury Police Department serving 20 of those years as the community police officer
at Broadview Middle School. During his career he received many honors including Police
Officer of the Year and National DARE Officer of the Year. He coached girls’ basketball for
twenty three years as the DHS freshman and assistant varsity coach. He also coached
baseball and won a state title. Officer DiNardo mentored thousands of teens and greatly
enjoyed working with children.
On January 17th we asked that the community come out in support of Bobby DiNardo and
cancer awareness. Attendees are encouraged to wear pink as we come together to honor
the memory of all those who have lost the battle to cancer, while supporting continued
cancer research.
Donations in honor of Officer Bobby DiNardo can be sent to:
Chip Salvestrini DHS Athletics 43 Clapboard Ridge Rd. Danbury CT. Attention: Lady
