GREAT EXPECTATIONS - Family University Conference by Danbury Public Schools

Danbury parents invited to learn at Family University



Conference offers seminars and activities for everyone



On Saturday, March 29, the Danbury
Public Schools will offer “Family University,” a full-day conference of
interactive seminars that will give parents the tools they need to help their
children succeed in school and in life while their accompanying children are
engaged in age-appropriate activities.

 “Great Expectations: Together We Can Achieve More”
will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Rogers Park Middle School, 21 Memorial
Dr. in Danbury. The conference is sponsored by Danbury Public Schools,
Danbury Board of Education, Mill Ridge and Morris St. Family Resource Centers,
Danbury Family Learning Center and Sodexo.



Keynote speaker, Dr. Anthony E. Wolf, will
present “Parenting Kids Today – practical solutions to make the job easier.”

 After breakfast and welcome by Superintendent Dr.
Sal Pascarella and Board of Education chair Eileen Alberts, parents will
participate in their first seminar followed by the keynote presentation. The second seminar will be
after lunchtime, which includes demonstrations, vendors and time to talk with
Board of Education members, the keynote and others that provide services for
families.



The selection of morning sessions includes Common
Core Standards, Supporting and Motivating Black and Latino Males to Achieve in
School and in Life, Cyber Safety, and Healthy Eating. Afternoon sessions
include Common Core Standards, Violence in Video Games and Effects on Children,
Parenting the Positive Discipline Way, and Fostering a Positive Transition to
Kindergarten.



While their parents are in the seminars, children
will be engaged in arts and crafts, science activities, music and movement,
physical education and cooking. They will also have an opportunity to meet the Danbury
Whaler hockey and Danbury Westerners baseball players and visit with the
district’s Literacy Caravan. Family
University is a year-long set of seminars for parents. The
Danbury Family Learning Center in conjunction with its community partners
sponsors multiple seminars in different languages all with the purpose of
helping parents to be well educated about the Danbury Public Schools and
engaged in ways that help their child student be successful in schools. 



Registration is requested by March 21. The fee is
$10 per family and the form is available at www.danbury.k12.ct.us. For
