Holiday Fair and Tag Sale

King Street United Church of Christ will have a gala Holiday Fair and Tag Sale on Saturday, Nov. 3, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. The tag sale will also be held on Friday, Nov. 2, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.


We have a ton of things in store, for all ages, including pony rides, a Christmas Boutique, giant Tag Sale, photos with Santa, and more. See below for details:


Pony Rides: While you are browsing for bargains, children can have a blast at our pony rides, $5 per ride.
Christmas Boutique: Who says decorating for Christmas has to be expensive? We have bargains galore in our Christmas Boutique. Wreaths, trees, lights, ornaments, and other Christmas specialty items ... all at affordable prices.
Giant Tag Sale: The deals just keep on coming at our giant tag sale, located inside and outside (weather permitting)
Vendors: Still have more shopping to do? Our vendors offer gifts and food items and more ... perfect for that hard-to-shop-for person on your list.

Silent Auction: Bid on some of our surprise baskets and other treasures in the Silent Auction.
Raffles: Take a chance on a handmade quilt by Midge Burns and Sue Varecio or an Adirondack bench by Don Forstrom. Or, take part in our 50-50 raffle.
Hot soup and sandwiches:Step downstairs for hot and cold beverages, soups, sandwiches and other goodies, prepared by the women of our church.
Bake Sale: If we baked it, you know it’s delicious. Take home a batch of cookies, a pie, cake, or other delicious item.
Photos with Santa: Last but not least, Santa is in the house, ready to greet you and have his photo taken with you.

It shows and compares what Danbury is paying per student compared to the rest of the state. Looking at the numbers, out of the 170+ districts in the state, Danbury pays the 8th LEAST amount per pupil. Out of the 10 districts in Connecticut that have over 10,000 students, Danbury ranks 2nd LOWEST in the state. This amount is about $3,000 less per pupil than the average of the state and the average of districts with 10,000+ students.

Teachers, administrators, contracted professionals, staff enrichment programs, staff insurance, and the rest comprise about 95% of the school system budget. See staff cost summary on page 8 of the report. You'll also note our board of education plans to spend a bit more than 3 million dollars on supplies and materials plus a million on equipment. The budget represents a 5% increase from the prior year. On our district home page - http://www.danbury.k12.ct.us/ it says Danbury has 10,300 my calculator tells me that's about $12,000 per child in the district. With $12,000 per child, why are teachers paying for supplies? Hmm ... let me think ... 95% of the budget goes to staff salary and benefits for the long 185 day year .... I have a guess where the money goes. Do you?
