COLLECTIONS, COMMUNITY & CONVERSATION EXHIBIT at the DANBURY MUSEUM & HISTORICAL SOCIETY

Free and Open to the Public
Wednesday through Friday from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
Saturdays from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
On display through March 22, 2014
This is an Accessible Art exhibit in conjunction with The Cultural Alliance of Western Connecticut.

Huntington Hall, our exhibit space, is filled with a wealth of interesting objects gleaned from the collections of individuals from The Greater Danbury area; including vintage photographs on display from guest curator and exhibitor Catherine Vanaria, Professor of Photography at Western Connecticut State University. Vanaria is also President and Co-Owner of Connecticut Photographics, Inc., a professional photographic and digital lab located in Danbury.

"With the increase in digital archiving and presentation, physical objects, documents and artifacts are slowly being forgotten,” explained Vanaria. “By exploring the artifacts hidden in collections of both museum and personal archives, we re-ignite personal connections to our own history that these objects trigger and, at the same time, spark creativity through conversations about them."

On display will be an eclectic mix of objects including sewing machines, turn of the century postcards, milk glass, examples of antique book bindings, slide rules, colonial apothecary items, vintage toys, dolls, vintage pins and more.

The museum will be hosting an educational program, 'Preserving Your Treasured Photographs,' presented by Catherine Vanaria on March 15, 2014. A schedule of events and additional information is available on the museum website.
