Statement from Terri Rousseau, Mother of Lauren Rousseau, on Behalf of Family

Lauren Rousseau was one of six adults killed Friday at Sandy Hook School in Newtown.

The following is a statement from Terri Rousseau, mother of Lauren Rousseau, on the behalf of the family. It was emailed to Patch on Saturday:

The Connecticut State Police confirmed at 1 a.m. today that our beloved Lauren was among the victims of the Newtown shooting. Lauren wanted to be a teacher from before she even went to kindergarten. We will miss her terribly and will take comfort knowing that she had achieved that dream.

Lauren Gabrielle Rousseau was born June 8, 1982 in Danbury, where she lived for most of her life. She was a graduate of Danbury High Schood. She had a bachelor's degree from the University of Connecticut and a master's degree in elementary education from the University of Bridgeport. She had worked as a substitute teacher in Danbury, New Milford and Newtown before she was hired in November as a permanent substitute teacher at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown.

Lauren was my daughter's best friend. She was over here MANY times and Michelle was a frequent visitor at Lauren's. We are all heartbroken. Our prayers are with you.

Lauren and I quickly became friends when we worked together in New Milford. She immediately made me feel welcome and was a conscientious, caring teacher and person. I am horrified and heartbroken that this unspeakable evil befell such a beautiful soul. I wish to extend my deepest sympathy to her family and pray that they may come to find some measure of peace after suffering such a devastating loss. May Lauren rest in peace in Paradise.

There are no words for this situation. I never knew Lauren, but I mourn her loss and the loss of all the other teachers, administrators, and students. As I watch the television and hear the interviews, go to the vigils, speak with residents and friends from Newtown, I wish I knew all who were involved. What remarkable people they all are. My condolences to all the families and friends involved. I will be thinking of you all FOREVER. May you all find peace.
