We are experiencing record breaking cold weather in the northeast and across the country. Frostbite and hypothermia are serious winter related conditions we normally do not have experience with, and yet they are both real health threats that rear their heads in prolonged outdoor exposure.
Here are tips from the CDC to help treat frostbite. If you or your loved ones detect symptoms of frostbite, seek medical care immediately. (Urgent care centers are equipped to treat both frostbite and hypothermia) Because frostbite and hypothermia both result from exposure, first determine whether the victim also shows signs of hypothermia, as described previously. Hypothermia is a more serious medical condition and requires emergency medical assistance.
