Man of 1,000 Thoughts here with some replies to burning questions the masses have sent me.
Question:
“It was my birthday and no one showed up for my party. What should I do?”
From, The Birthday Girl
The Man of 1000 Thoughts:
This is a classic Lex Luthor scenario. The first thing you have to understand is there are many reasons why this could have happened. People are selfish and need to constantly be pleased, especially in 2013. Unfortunately, this is not the 50’s and most people do not want to spend the entire day or evening sitting out in the yard on a blanket with some birthday cake, although, I would love to. Invite me next time!
The times are different, and the birthday party is no longer for The Birthday Girl, it is for the people who are attending. If they do not feel their entertainment needs are going to be met, they are probably not going to show up. Of course I am generalizing, but my point is: do not take it personally. Aside from your family members and best friend (who have no excuse, I hope these people were there), no one is thinking, “if I don’t go to this party, it’ll make the birthday girl sad.” They are thinking, “do I really want to take that time out of my self-centered schedule to do something that will not benefit me?”
If you want people to show up, you need many very close friends or a really hip, entertaining party. If this was the case, and you feel you were personally slighted, maybe you need to look at yourself and figure out why nobody wanted to go. If you are content with yourself, then look at who you invited and figure out if you really want to be friends with someone who would not even go to your birthday party. No one went to Lex Luthor’s party and he became a billionaire.
Question:
“I’m tired of eating the same old food on campus. What are some restaurants nearby with good food to eat?” From, Hungry
The Man of 1000 Thoughts:
Dear Hungry, is this something necessary to ask with the existence of not only the Internet, but with smartphones? I mean my thousands of thoughts would be much better spent on questions of the soul and mind – not navigation.
There are some good eating-places around. Directly across the street from Fairfield Hall is Soho Pizza, with their twin Double Twister attached. Soho has decent pizza and Double Twister is an ice cream place.
Going down the street from Midtown onto Newtown Road we get to the good stuff. Chili’s, Bertucci’s and Friendly’s are all on the same road. Bertucci’s is an Italian restaurant chain, similar in class to the Olive Garden. The exception being that Bertucci’s makes a killer pizza. Seriously, if you go to Bertucci’s, only order the pizza. Chili’s is basically an alternate Applebee’s, you have your burgers, ribs and anything chicken related. Friendly’s food might as well be dirt but you would be hard pressed to find a better dessert selection. They have cheesecake cubes as a topping…cheesecake cubes.
Question:
“There is this really cute girl in my psych class, but I don’t know how to talk to her. What should I say?”
From, Speechless
The Man of 1000 Thoughts:
“Hello.”
