About the Speaker: Virginia Peragallo-Dittko, RN, BC-ADM, CDE, FAADE

Ms. Peragallo-Dittko is Executive Director of the Diabetes and Obesity Institute at Winthrop-University Hospital in Mineola, NY. She served as Director of the Diabetes Education Center at Winthrop-University Hospital from 1985 to 2010. She is also a Professor of Medicine at SUNY Stony Brook School of Medicine, is Board-certified in Advanced Diabetes Management and is a Fellow of the American Association of Diabetes Educators.

Ms. Peragallo-Dittko currently serves as Chair of the Prevention Committee of the American Diabetes Association. She also serves as Associate Editor of The Diabetes Educator journal and formerly served as Editor-in-Chief of Program Publications for the American Diabetes Association. In 2007, she was named Outstanding Educator in Diabetes by the American Diabetes Association. In 1990, she was named Diabetes Educator of the Year by the American Association of Diabetes Educators.Ms. Peragallo-Dittko has the distinction of being the only recipient of both elite national awards.

Ms. Peragallo-Dittko edited the textbook A Core Curriculum for Diabetes Education, Second Edition and Addendum. She has been published in the area of diabetes education in many books, as well as lay and professional journals. A respected national and international lecturer, she has lectured extensively for lay and professional audiences and has participated in radio and television interviews.
