Western Baseball drops LEC conference opner
Western drops double header vs. confrence rival Plymouth State; face uphill climb to reach conference playoffs.
The Western Connecticut State University baseball team opened LEC conference play dropping an all important double-header vs LEC rival Plymouth State. Plymouth's senior right hander Rew Wilson (3-2) stole the show by earning both a win and a save in the double-header. Wilson surrendered just two base runners in eight combined innings, with eleven strikeouts. Wilson was the reigning LEC and ECAC New England Pitcher of the Week.Senior Chris Alberto (2-2) went the distance for the Colonials in the first game, giving up nine hits and four runs. He struck out eight batters. Senior Bill Eannotti and sophomore Scott Connetta sparked the Western offense, slugging two hits a piece as Western lost 4-2.Junior Zack Phillippas (0-3) and freshmen Craig Frobel combined on a solid outing, but the Colonial bats were silent once again as they dropped the nightcap 6-3. The Colonials next take the field Wednesday at 4 pm as they take on Wesleyan at Westside Field. Their next conference action comes Saturday, as the Colonials will head north to take on LEC foe Keene State.
