“We’ve been looking forward to expanding our specialty services to include small animal internal medicine,” Whitefield said. “We took our time in hiring for this position, which has paid off immensely since we were able to find Dr. Vrabelova, who is extremely bright, compassionate and will be able to provide a superior level of veterinary care to our patients.”

Internal medicine specialists work closely with family veterinarians to help provide complete veterinary care for pets by giving second opinions on difficult cases, providing specialized hospitalization and therapies and performing complex diagnostic procedures.

Dr. Vrabelova said she is looking forward to helping the patients of Hudson Highlands.

“I love internal medicine because each case represents a puzzle consisting of many small clues and details that need to be interpreted,” she said. “I love the contact with dogs and cats and also helping their owners understand diseases and treatments.”

Originally from Bratislava, the capital of Slovakia, Dr. Vrabelova completed a six-year undergraduate program at Slovakia’s University of Veterinary Medicine, culminating in her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree. After graduation, Dr. Vrabelova completed several years of advanced training in veterinary medicine at the Veterinary Teaching Hospital of the Autonomous University of Barcelona, Spain, and North Carolina State University in Raleigh. Dr. Vrabelova later continued on to Ohio State University in Columbus where she completed her three-year internal medicine residency.

Dr. Vrabelova is a member of the American Veterinary Medical Association and the Veterinary Comparative Respiratory Society. In her free time, she enjoys hiking, skiing, traveling and salsa dancing.

Established in 1971 by Dr. John Whitefield, Hudson Highlands Veterinary Medical Group strives to provide a superior level of veterinary care by hiring the most skilled and compassionate technicians and specialists--reflecting the best that veterinary medicine and technology have to offer.
