Danbury Unemployment Up in January But Down Year-Over-Year

January unemployment rate close to 2013 average.

Danbury's January unemployment rate — 6.1 percent — is just a touch under  the 2013 average but well below the 7.4 percent recorded at the same time last year.

According to the Connecticut Department of Labor, Danbury averaged 6.2 percent unemployment in 2013, with a low of 5.3 percent in December.

The town's total labor force increased slightly from December to January, however all of those persons were unemployed, raising the rate by 0.8 percentage points.

This represents a 15.1 percent rise in unemployment month-over-month but a 17.6 percent decline year-over-year.

State, National Unemployment Rate

In Connecticut, the pool of jobless people jumped up to 7.2 percent in January from 6.8 percent overall in December. Nationally, the United State's unemployment rate for the same time period is 6.6 percent.

Yet our Governor "fiddles while Rome is burning" and tells us all sorts of CRAP about how great things are! Foreclosures are at a record high...yet things are great! Really, how stupid does he (and his buddy obama) think we are? Apparently CT voters actually ARE pretty stupid because they keep voting the same "tax and spend" dems into office and wonder why things don't ever change! I believe Einstein is credited with calling that the definition of insanity? We have record setting deficits....the Governor's office can't really figure out if we have a surplus...how much it will be...but he wants to (buy the next election) give a rebate out to all of us...yeah Danny boy, instead of paying down the debt, buy the election...don't worry about the burden we throw onto our kids shoulders...just you take care of you and your wife so you can get a job in DC! When will we ever learn?

Thank you Boughton, for making Danbury the list. As Mayor everyone tells me you have done great things for the city. I personally would like to know what they mean. I would like to know what my taxes are paying for, the road conditions are awful and the only thing that I have seen happen in the city is you know how to tweet and on every other street there is a new condo development. Does Connecticut Kitchen and Bath Inc. supply all the fixtures?

Connecticut has historically been among the last states to feel the effects of a recession and among the last to recover.
