Danbury's Unemployent Rate Drops to 6 Percent

The state Department of Labor reported Danbury's labor market area has an unemployment rate of 6 percent.

Danbury's unemployment rate dropped to 6 percent in December, while it stood at 8 percent in January a year ago.

The city of Danbury's unemployment rate stood at 6.2 percent in December, while Brookfield's reached 5.9 percent, New Fairfield's reached 6 percent and Bethel hit 6.1 percent.

"It is amazing, but it isn't surprising," said Stephen Bull, president of the Greater Danbury Chamber of Commerce. "Our retail sector is strong. Our manufacturing is strong. We're lower than the state."
