'The Things That Scare You' is this year's theme at A Haunting at 63

Whether it's clowns, enclosed spaces, or things under the bed, this year's haunted house at 63 Clearview Ave. is scary.

A Haunting at 63, the haunted house at 63 Clearview Ave., has a new theme this Halloween, and it is scary.

"The Things that Scare You," is this year's theme, and clowns are involved. They serve up Rotten Candy, and Rot Corn. Clowns, things under the bed, enclosed walls, and a variety of other creepy things.

"We just love this," said Steve Randi and Cathy Anastasia, who have been hosting this haunted house in Danbury for the last six years. One reason he's telling the truth is Randi is giggling when he shows people this year's creation. He enjoys this work. The show is free, although donations are accepted. Randi and Anastasia recruit 10 friends for the actual show nights, so expect a whole bunch of people jumping out of unexpected places. For pay, Randi works as a landscaper and contractor. Anastasia works as a veternary assistant.

They visited the National Haunters Convention in the summer, and visited the former Eastern State Penitentary in Pennsylvania, home of the haunted show, "Terror Behind the Walls." The former prison closed in the 1980s. To make money, the state rents the prison out as a haunted house tourist attraction.

"We're hoping to take it professional," Randi said. This is where you find their facebook page.

Taking it "professional" may be a year or three away, but taking it seriously Randi and Anastasia have down pat. They started working on this year's show in July. Room after room is assembled and some take nearly a month to complete. They have been collecting scary equipment for nearly a decade.

For more information, visit "aHauntingat63" on facebook or the family's webpage.

The actual haunted house is open Saturday, Sunday and Monday from 6 to 9 p.m. Parking is at the house on Saturday and Sunday. On Monday, designated parking spots will be located around the neighborhood. The narrow street is too small for both cars and children on Halloween night, so park where the signs suggest you park.

g, Let's throw out some more numbers... Here is a site to look at:Read More http://www.sde.ct.gov/sde/lib/sde/PDF/dgm/report1/basiccon.pdf This is the Connecticut State Department of Education Bureau of Grants Management spreadsheet. It shows and compares what Danbury is paying per student compared to the rest of the state. Looking at the numbers, out of the 170+ districts in the state, Danbury pays the 8th LEAST amount per pupil. Out of the 10 districts in Connecticut that have over 10,000 students, Danbury ranks 2nd LOWEST in the state. This amount is about $3,000 less per pupil than the average of the state and the average of districts with 10,000+ students.

Good afternoon Jessica, Danbury plans to spend approximately $114,000,000 on teaching staff salaryRead More and benefits for the next school year per the school budget here - http://www.danbury.k12.ct.us/bbadmin/Budget/2012-2013%20budget.pdf the total budget is $121,000,000. Teachers, administrators, contracted professionals, staff enrichment programs, staff insurance, and the rest comprise about 95% of the school system budget. See staff cost summary on page 8 of the report. You'll also note our board of education plans to spend a bit more than 3 million dollars on supplies and materials plus a million on equipment. The budget represents a 5% increase from the prior year. On our district home page - http://www.danbury.k12.ct.us/ it says Danbury has 10,300 my calculator tells me that's about $12,000 per child in the district. With $12,000 per child, why are teachers paying for supplies? Hmm ... let me think ... 95% of the budget goes to staff salary and benefits for the long 185 day year .... I have a guess where the money goes. Do you?
