The Fernando Luis Alvarez Gallery announces its 2nd Annual “Thank You, CT” Exhibition.

Building upon last year’s “Thank You, Stamford!” this year’s show invites local artists from around the state to apply for wall space in the gallery during the month of August. Opening Friday, August 3rd, “Thank You, CT!” seeks to offer the community an opportunity to experience the grassroots contemporary art movement that is flooding Connecticut, led by Alvarez and his team.

“We have a very selective platform and cannot represent over 90% of the artists that apply to the gallery,” explains Alvarez. “However, we are also committed to serving the community, which is why we brought our internationally recognized contemporary art platform to Stamford in the first place. Connecticut needed a true contemporary gallery, and through this show, Connecticut’s artists have the opportunity to be a part of that movement.”

Alvarez will step-down momentarily as the gallery’s sole creative force and allow a museum director and group of in-house artists (Carole Feuerman, Johan Barrios, John J. Bedoya, Marko Remec, and Museum Director and owner Dr. Livia Straus) jury the show by selecting the Best of Connecticut’s Artists. The show will be curated by Alvarez, and will hold it's opening on Friday, August 3rd from 6 to 9 pm and will be open for viewing Wednesday-Sunday from 2 to 7pm through September 3rd. At last year’s opening night, over 500 guests showed up to support local talent.

Those seeking further information about the show’s opening may contact Rebecca Hansen, Communications Director, at rhansen@flalvarezgallery.comor at 888-861-6791, ext. 6. All other questions regarding submission must be directed to submissions@flalvarezgallery.com.

Good afternoon Jessica, Danbury plans to spend approximately $114,000,000 on teaching staff salaryRead More and benefits for the next school year per the school budget here - http://www.danbury.k12.ct.us/bbadmin/Budget/2012-2013%20budget.pdf the total budget is $121,000,000. Teachers, administrators, contracted professionals, staff enrichment programs, staff insurance, and the rest comprise about 95% of the school system budget. See staff cost summary on page 8 of the report. You'll also note our board of education plans to spend a bit more than 3 million dollars on supplies and materials plus a million on equipment. The budget represents a 5% increase from the prior year. On our district home page - http://www.danbury.k12.ct.us/ it says Danbury has 10,300 my calculator tells me that's about $12,000 per child in the district. With $12,000 per child, why are teachers paying for supplies? Hmm ... let me think ... 95% of the budget goes to staff salary and benefits for the long 185 day year .... I have a guess where the money goes. Do you?
