Volunteers Organizing to Clear Blockage in Still River

Brookfield will be helping with the tree but a few more volunteers are needed to clear away the garbage that's collected.

Billed as their “next big challenge,” the Still River Alliance Commission is organizing volunteers to clean up a huge blockage in the Still River near Golf Quest in Brookfield.

A fallen tree that spans from bank-to-bank has been collecting garbage and debris causing a major clog along the river. The town of Brookfield has offered to take care of the tree but the Alliance is gathering volunteers to help gather the trash using kayaks and small boats, as well as from along the shoreline.

They have enough boats but could still use a few more volunteers.

The organized effort is scheduled to start at 9 a.m. on Saturday, July 19, with parking available at Golf Quest. Join the event on Facebook for updates.

Potential volunteers are also welcome to attend the Still River Alliance Commission’s July 2014 meeting, July 14 at 5 p.m. at the Danbury Parks and Rec Office on Hayestown Road.
