UPDATE: I-84 Flowing Smoothly as of 8:30 a.m. Sunday

The New York State Department reported it closed I-84 westbound at 6:30 p.m. To check for updates from the NY DOT, click here.

The state DOT site linked above is a great source of updates. It reports this morning it is ahead of schedule on replacing the bridge and it is starting to pave the road.

I-84 in Danbury was flowing steadily as of 8:30 p.m. There was no traffic buildup on secondary roads in downtown Danbury as of 8:30 p.m. That is true as of 8:30 a.m. Sunday as well. I-84 is flowing normally and there is no back up on secondary roads in downtown Danbury.

The bridge replacement work on I-84 consists of first constructing two replacement bridges next to I-84's existing bridges over Dingle Ridge Road in Southeast. That work is complete or nearly complete. On Sept. 21 and 22, workers will shut the highway, and demolish the existing bridge westbound. Then they will slide the new bridge in place. They will repeat this process later on the eastbound side.

The I-84 eastbound closure, which is more likely to cause traffic delays in Ridgefield, is currently scheduled for October 19-20. On these dates I-84 be closed at Exit 20 in the Town of Southeast in NY. Traffic will be detoured onto Route 6 in NY and returned to I-84 at Exit 1 in the Town of Danbury, CT.
