900 residents came out to support Connecticut’s tiniest citizens – babies -- on Sunday at the Matrix Corporate Center in Danbury and to-date raised over $100,000 at March for Babies, the March of Dimes walk fundraiser to honor babies born healthy and those who need help to survive and thrive. Nine March for Babies events in Connecticut on April 29, May 5 and 6 will aim to raise $1.3 million.
“It looks like we broke records for the Danbury area, and we look forward to continuing our partnership with the March of Dimes for the next several years,” said Glen Nelson, Chairman and CEO of Matrix Corporate Center.
Aaron Smiles, leasing director for Matrix Corporate Center agreed. “We are thankful to be part of this great event and want to thank all corporate sponsors from Matrix Corporate Center, Chipman Mazzucco, Goddard School, Idelle Management and MaxQ Technology Inc. for their generous support.”
Funds raised by March for Babies help support prenatal wellness programs, research grants, neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) family support programs and advocacy efforts for stronger, healthier babies.
The most urgent infant health problem in the U.S. today is premature birth. It affects nearly half a million babies each year, and over 4,200 babies in Connecticut. Babies born too soon are more likely to die or have disabilities. The March of Dimes is committed to reducing this toll by
funding research to find the answers to premature birth and providing comfort and information to families who are affected.
Local March of Dimes Ambassadors, the Phillips family of New Milford, addressed the crowd about their connection to the March of Dimes mission and their own experiences with premature birth. In October 2011, Jonathan and Kim experienced the premature birth of their triplets, Andrew, Bryce and Charlotte, who were born too small and too soon to survive at just 22 weeks. The Phillip’s shared their moving story to raise awareness of this leading newborn health crisis and thanked walkers for their commitment
to the March of Dimes mission to give all babies a healthy start.
The March of Dimes thanks all walkers, donors, volunteers and sponsors for their support of March for Babies in Danbury. Photos will be available online shortly at facebook.com/marchofdimesct. For those who could not attend the event, outstanding donations may be
delivered or mailed to: March of Dimes, 500 Winding Brook Drive, Ste. 8, Glastonbury, CT 06033. Please indicate name, team name if applicable and the event site.
