State To Spur Job Growth: Reinvent Connecticut

It may seem like a while back, but Gov. Dannel Malloy and the legislature held a special jobs session in October, and local businesses are invited to a breakfast in January to discuss options they may have for hiring workers.

The goal of the special jobs session was to create pro-business incentives to jump-start Connecticut's economy.

The state came up with options like giving companies tax credits of $500 per month for each new hire. That is up from $200. Another tax credit is $900 for each person hired who was either a veteran, unemployed or disabled.

"There are a whole lot of new programs to help businesses get started," said Stephen Bull, president of the Greater Danbury Chamber of Commerce. Bull said most of the incentives are aimed at small businesses. "Small business is where most jobs come from."

People who attend the meeting will hear about the programs from the state Department of Economic and Community Development, which will explain those options at a breakfast at the Matrix in Danbury Jan. 12.

"One focus of the special session was to help businesses, most notably small businesses," said Catherine Smith, commissioner of the state Department of Economic and Community Development.

"The state put up $180 million on this effort," Bull said. "It's for loans, to finance hires, for grants, for job training. The entire business community has been invited to this breakfast."

The breakfast takes place at 8:30 a.m. at the Matrix, 39 Old Ridgebury Road, Danbury. For more information, contact the Greater Danbury Chamber of Commerce.

Malloy should reduce taxes, regulation, decrease government size, reduce hostility toward industry, cell phone towers, commerce and nonsensical zoning to keep out things like box stores. Bring Connecticut into the 21st century and let business prosper to create jobs (which it will).

Instead we read about nonsense like this. How about our state offering a dozen pre-approved sites to any power generator who will make power in Fairfield county with oil, coal or natural gas with an assurance of no state or local litigation or resistance? How about a state law banning zoning that restricts store size to keep box stores out? Why not get rid of the Amazon tax and allow all those people who were making money from Amazon to become employed taxpayers again?
