Planning Considers Army Reserve Subdivision

The Planning Commission will receive the subdivision application Wednesday for the U.S. Army Reserve center proposed for the Lee Farm site on West Wooster Street.

The Planning Commission will receive a subdivision application Wednesday for a 17-acre site on the Lee Farms property.

This is the parcel where the U.S. Army Reserve will build its training center in Danbury. Bids to build the center will be awarded in August.

The commission will likely set a date in August for a public hearing on the subdivision where the center is to be located.

At that public hearing, according to the Danbury Planning and Zoning regulations, the commission will consider whether or not the subdivided parcel has access and it requires utilities. The commission will not consider the proposed use of the land at this hearing.

According to the July 15 letter from OPM Secretary Benjamin Barnes to state legislative leaders, the proposed Danbury Reserve training center will be open in 2013, because the state expects to close the Norwalk armory in 2013 to save $45,000. At the same time, the state will close the Naugatuck Armory and save $40,000. In both cases, the units will operate out of Danbury. Bids on the construction of the center will be opened in August.
