Off, On Again Water at Broadview Middle School

A blown fuse shut down the water for three hours Thursday at Broadview.

The water at Broadview Middle School was off this morning.   According to Sal Pascarella, Superintendent of Danbury Schools, the school was allowed to remain open because the problem was expected to be resolved quickly.  No serious repairs were needed.

"The water went down between 10 and 10:30 this morning and was back up by 1-1:15," said Pascarella. He'd expected it to come back two hours faster.

The water lines stopped working after a fuse blew, causing the air pressure to drop. That allowed air to get into the lines. Sean Hanley, foreman of the Public Buildings Department, was on the site and determined that there was no contamination and the resolution was simple.

“First we had to bleed the lines. The pressure in that area is very low, so in order to get the system back up we had to boost the pressure with an air compressor,” said Hanley. “There were no breaks, no disaster. It was easy to fix, just a little time consuming.”

The time that it took to get the water back up and running took a little longer than expected. Pascarella said, “People from the city thought we would be back up by noon, and after that it was too late to cancel school.  It may have caused some discomfort, but everything is fine now.”
