New White Street Signals Get A Workout as WCSU Ends Semester

The crosswalk lights installed and operating on White Street are getting a workout as students come and go from final exams.

"It's a great idea," said John Quigg of Accurate Lock. "If the kids use it, it will give drivers more warning someone is crossing the street. They're in the dark under the bridge."

Victoria Beckham, a Western Connecticut State University sophomore, said she was visiting campus Tuesday to return books she bought this semester. "The lights are making it safer."

Marc Patterson of Oxford, a junior, said he visited campus Tuesday to take an American Perspectives final exam. "The lights draw attention to people crossing so they don't get hit by the cars. It's better."

The lights are being installed to avoid any pedestrian versus car accidents like the 2010 hit and run that killed Dong Lin of Brookfield.
