Mayor Boughton On Republican Convention Credentials Committee

Danbury mayor flew into Tampa Thursday night for two days of meetings on who is a legitimate delegate to the convention.

Danbury Mayor Mark Boughton said President Abraham Lincoln and President Harry Truman were his political idols.

Boughton, 48, now serving in his sixth term as mayor, is at the Republican National Convention. He said from Tampa he joined politics in his home town because he wanted to be involved in his community and he wanted to make it a better place for people to live.

Boughton graduated from Danbury High School in 1982, and he earned a Bachelor of Science and Education Degree in American History at Central Connecticut State University. He then earned his Master’s Degree in Educational Psychology from Western Connecticut State University.

Boughton said he is proudest about his administration's work on reorganizing city government, which he said has fewer people on the payroll today than it did ten years ago.

"I like the work we've done on the quality of life issues, on what the Unified Neighborhood Inspection Team has done," Boughton said. "We're always improving."
