ICE Arrests Immigrants in Danbury

ICE agents, working with the Danbury Police Department, arrested an unknown number of illegal immigrants in Danbury Thursday.

Danbury police assisted federal Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents Thursday, who arrested illegal immigrants in Danbury.

"We did assist them," said Danbury Police Department Public Information Officer Thomas Wendel.

Danbury has signed an agreement with federal immigration authorities in September 2009 that gave training on immigration enforcement to two Danbury officers. People in the community feared this arrangement would lead to widespread sweeps of people on the streets, while city government officials said it would be applied to people who engaged in crimes in the U.S.
