Boughton Endorses McMahon for Senate

Danbury Mayor Mark Boughton endorsed Linda McMahon's bid to replace Joseph Liberman as Connecticut U.S. Senator.

Boughton, who ran for governor and then lieutenant governor in 2010, said McMahon is strong where a U.S. senator must be strong in 2012.

"I've known Linda for three or four years. I've been impressed with her sense of business an what it takes to create jobs," Boughton said. "That's all the 2012 election will be about."

Boughton joins the 100 local leaders who endorsed McMahon's bid for the U.S. Senate by Dec. 6, according to a campaign press release of that day. McMahon built her reputation as the former Chief Executive Officer of the World Wrestling Entertainment, a New York Stock Exchange company, which is home to the Smackdown and Wrestlemania, along with the Undertaker.

McMahon ran as the Republican Party candidate for U.S. Senate in 2010, and was defeated by Richard Blumenthal, the former state Attorney General, and Democratic Party choice. The Democratic Party candidate for U.S. Senate to replace Lieberman is not yet decided for the 2012 election, and U.S. Rep. Chris Murphy is among the candidates already running for it.
